Luxi Light Meter

A must-have iPhone accessory for field photographers

After a very successful round of crowd-funding earlier this spring, the Luxi light meter—created by Extrasensory Devices—is ready for users. A small diffusion dome that fits securely over the front-facing camera, Luxi easily turns any iPhone 5 or 4/4S into a portable incident light meter. When attached and used with a light meter app like Pocket Light Meter, Luxi can also help determine the best settings for a DSLR, or most other cameras, for proper photo exposure.

While cameras measure the light reflected by the subject, which oftentimes causes over or underexposure in backlit situations, Luxi measures the amount of light falling on the object—as all professional light meters should. But professional-grade meters packing all the same functions as Luxi can cost hundreds of dollars. As BiteMyApple founder Chris Johnson explains, the best part of Luxi is, “It’s less than 30 bucks, and you don’t need to carry around a separate device.”

Luxi retails for just under $30 from BiteMyApple.
