Camp’d Out Brings Glamour to Joshua Tree Adventures

A sophisticated take on time spent camping in the wilderness

by Kyle Raymond Fitzpatrick

For those hoping to explore the outdoors with a little hand-holding, Camp’d Out covers it all. The Venice, California-based lifestyle brand seeks to connect nature with a little glamour by mashing retail-friendly styles with camping. Armed with over a dozen teepee tents, pieces of vintage furniture, canned wines and more, Camp’d Out provides unique camping trips where all one has to do is show up.

Founded by Kitty Medina, a visual merchandiser with a love of travel, the concept is loosely planned fun that touches various aspects of Southern Californian life. Recently Camp’d Out took over Boulder’s Hideaway in Joshua Tree for a fully realized example of what the brand can do. The experience featured large tents decked out with Loomstead Bedding sheets and Happy Habitat throws, Health-Ade to take on hikes, and Nomadica wines to sip on upon return. Camp’d Out taps into the buzzy, bringing it all to one place just left of the middle of nowhere for a short stint.

The main event was a moonlit supper prepared by Moonrise Standard, a culinary concept that brings fine dining to unique locations, a perfect match for the elevated camping style that Camp’d Out provides. Menu items included everything from a charred kale salad to a sashimi-style halibut, salsa tossed hominy and the roasted head of a pig, all cooked within eyeshot of an open fire pit.

While meals are cared for, the experiences do require—and enable—the sort of wanderlust that camping is known for. One is able to explore a specific location as they see fit. An experience with Camp’d Out is best suited for a large group of friends with a set idea of how they want to venture into the outdoors or groups hoping to bring a little bit of the wild to wherever they are, putting their trust in the hands of visionaries.
