Freitag R521 Coolidge

The Swiss brand’s latest design, based on the classic mountaineering rucksack

Durability, function, style and sustainability are not mutually exclusive as Zurich-based bag-maker Freitag continues to prove. The brand’s latest offering, the R521 Coolidge, is a continuation of that tradition; this rugged commuting and travel bag takes cues from the classic Swiss rucksacks that helped early mountaineers summit peaks throughout the Alps. The bag’s outer is made of recycled truck tarps; aged on the road in Switzerland for a decade before becoming your new favorite travel companion. The process softens the hard-wearing material and gives the bag a vintage look and feel while maintaining capacity to take a beating and protect your goods from the elements. A padded laptop sleeve fit for a 15” Macbook keeps your mobile office secure while a zippered outer-pocket allows for quick access to essentials. Plus an adjustable cover flap and top loading system allows for visibility of the bag’s contents.

Part of the brand’s sophisticated Reference Collection, the R521 Coolidge is available online from Freitag for €360 in “all the colors that were at the height of truck-tarp fashion 10 years ago.”
