Hammam 34 Turkish Towels

An Amsterdam duo’s functional take on the spirit of adventuresome travels

Traditional Turkish towels add more than a spirited touch to a modern bathroom; the centuries-old design also serves as an ideal travel companion. Typically uber-soft, the towel’s woven cotton fabric takes up far less room than a normal towel, allowing you to throw it in a beach tote for myriad uses or pack it in your suitcase when you need to be a self-sufficient house guest.

The latest to catch our eye is from the young Amsterdam-based label Hammam 34, whose motto succinctly sums up the essence of using Turkish towels: “Let’s feel at home when we travel and be explorers when we’re home.” The duo behind Hammam 34—Burcu Yurtoglu and Semra Celebi—designs the color palettes and patterns, but leaves the hand-weaving up to a group of skilled craftspeople in Denizli, a town in southwest Turkey.

Hammam 34’s current collection encompasses an array of styles, sizes and colors, but standouts include the “Shaken Not Stirred” striped design and the solid-hued “Stone Washed” towels. The range can be found at Amsterdam concept store Hutspot (where we recently spotted them) as well as from their online shop, where the “Basic” retails for €20.
