QT Hotel, Bondi

Vibrant beachfront luxury at Sydney’s newest boutique hotel

Adding to its quickly expanding portfolio of eclectic Australian hotels, QT Hotels & Resorts has unveiled its latest destination overlooking Bondi Beach in Sydney. Opened at the end of last year, the new QT Bondi provides visitors with beachfront views, airy rooms and connections to the best the neighborhood has to offer. The boutique hotel is part of a massive luxury redevelopment that has transformed the iconic Swiss Grand Hotel into a modern hub for exciting new restaurants, shops and residences—redefining the Bondi beachfront. The renovated space includes 69 apartment-style guest suites designed by frequent QT collaborator and renowned hotel designer Nic Graham.

The first thing guests might notice upon entering is the hotel’s bold use of color and patterns throughout its interior. “It should uplift, invigorate and transport the guest away from their world and into the backstory of Bondi,” Graham tells CH. “The bold colors were inspired by the buildings along the foreshore parades. The vintage styling is a language developed for QT properties.”

Also noticeable is the hotel’s lack of traditional facilities—there is no restaurant, bar or spa. Instead, guests are encouraged to adventure out to Bondi’s renowned attractions, including the iconic Icebergs pool. Even the rooms are billed as “apartment-style,” meaning they’re more like a serviced Airbnb rather than a traditional hotel room. It’s QT’s way of nudging guests to take part in the local community, and the concierge (as well as QT Bondi’s website) is well-versed in pointing out local bites, brews and escapes just beyond the comfort of the lobby.

Upstairs, the rooms are bright, beach-y and playful—and their open-floor arrangements allow sunlight to permeate all the way through. Clusters of circular mirrors break up the optic-white walls, while pastel furniture and patterned rugs sit atop limed oak floors—reminiscent of a crumpled beach towel lying on the sand. Bathrooms are crisp and clean, with turquoise tiles reflecting the color of the ocean at South Bondi. (Guests will also be happy to know that they’re stocked with Malin + Goetz products.) Altogether, it’s an inviting space that welcomes relaxation while encouraging exploration. Luckily, one of the world’s best beaches is just across the street.
