The Hoxton Hotel, Holborn
The cheeky, transparent Shoreditch digs open a new location in the center of London
When its doors opened in 2006, The Hoxton Hotel garnered the tag of being the “no bullshit” hotel. This autumn, the successful anti-hotel flung open the doors to a new space in the center of London, The Hoxton Holborn, bringing its guests more of the same pared-back ethos that made its name.
Essentially it’s a transparent approach to accommodation, with none of the hidden stuff that gets in the way of a decent stay. No expensive WiFi costs (it’s free here), lackluster breakfasts that leave a stain on your credit card or surprises upon entering a substandard room. In fact, Hoxton actually calls a shoebox room a Shoebox room.
Like its Shoreditch sister, there are four categories of guest rooms: Shoebox, Snug, Cosy and Roomy—should you wish to swing a cat or two. Each one has been designed to maximize space, comfort and style, with bespoke Pen and Ink smellies to freshen a weary traveler up before heading to its in-house coffee shop, the unmarked, underground Chicken Shop or Hubbard & Bell Grill.
Its proximity to Central St Martins, one of the world’s most revered design institutions, has enabled the Hoxton Holborn to utilize the school’s rich pool of talent in the design of its spaces. One of its students curated the hotel’s artwork, while bespoke wallpaper by two local illustrators adds to the already dynamically creative atmosphere.
When you’re finally done for the night, pick up your complimentary breakfast bag and settle into the 280 thread count sheets. If you forgot anything, there’s a lobby shop with those little essentials, all priced as you’d find them in a supermarket.
Centrally located, the Hoxton Holborn is down the road from Kings Cross, and is a five-minute walk from Oxford Street, where you can catch a band at the 100 Club or do some extensive shopping—or just stay put and eat at one of town’s most talked about underground eateries. Rooms start at £69 a night.
