High quality camping gear for those seeking an easy-going, comfortable trip to the great outdoors

Part of the joy of outdoor gear is nerding out over technical details like waterproofing and making sure everything is ultra-lightweight down to the gram. However, when your outdoor excursions don’t involve weeklong trips in the backcountry or summiting snow-capped peaks, you might want something that offers a bit more comfort. Seeing a gap in the market between high-end mountaineering gear and more casual, low-cost big box store camp gear, industry veteran Rich Hill launched Ticla, his Ventura, California-based company that’s bringing style, functionality and quality to casual campers.

“After 20 years of selling outdoor equipment and apparel, I had slowly acquired an aversion to the latest and greatest technologies that promised 5% better performance at a 50% premium price point,” Hill says. “I wanted to design functional equipment, inspired by the top-of-mountain technical brands, but focused on having fun and being easy to use.” A few blocks from the beach, the brand’s California roots are represented in their mellow yet clean and modern designs, “Our style is old school outdoor meets mid-century modern,” says Hill. Most importantly, all of Ticla’s products allow for a comfortable camp with an easy setup and takedown.

Check out Ticla online and keep an eye out for their full range of tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads and shelters available at finer outdoor retailers in March 2014.
