Updated daily, the Buy section is a deep directory of stuff we love. From this collection we organize Gift Guides for the holiday season and special occasions all year long.
In Hudson, New York, James Beard Award–winning chef Zakary Pelaccio continues to innovate and inspire in the local food movement through his restaurant Fish + Game. With co-author Peter Barrett, Pelaccio outlines Fish + Game’s relationship to food (and nature) by way of seasonal recipes and profiles of producers. An incredibly beautiful cookbook, “Project 258: Making Dinner at Fish + Game” is more than a collection of dishes and their steps; it’s a visual guide to an important culinary movement.
A new addition to the Penhaligon’s Portrait series—a collection of scents built around eccentric, imaginative characters—the Countess Dorothea Vanilla Tea marks a first for the English heritage brand. It’s one of their first ever special blend teas. Assam and Ceylon black tea leaves unite, with ground Indian vanilla pods. As the brand makes clear, the vibrant tea is strong enough to hold up to milk, or sherry. It’s also available in Penhaligon’s shops worldwide.
Made with 100% essential oils, this room spray was crafted to smell like California’s lovely central coast—Big Sur. With balsam fir, citrus and birch tar, it’s woody but fresh. Add a few drops to an oil diffuser or simply spray directly from the bottle.
Tracking your heart rate, breathing, movement and more, Tomorrow Sleep’s Sleeptracker helps users make sense of their sleeping patterns. From there, it also offers personalized suggestions for better rest. The iOS/Android app can be synched with Alexa, and can track one or two people at a time. Unlike many sleep-tracking devices, this one sits under your mattress so you won’t even know it’s there.
Don’t let the pink hue fool you, this is a tequila—and a good one at that. While aging in Napa Cabernet French White Oak barrels has lent the agave spirit its pink color and a light nose of the wine, the flavor is that of a premium blanco with light floral notes. It’s delicate and quite easy to sip neat.
Frances Cannon’s “Dancing Ladies”-themed illustrations have been a longtime favorite of Melbourne-based studio Third Drawer Down, and now they’ve put the artwork on a dish towel. Made from a cotton/linen blend, this pink towel celebrates all kinds of women’s bodies and is sure to make doing the washing up much more entertaining.
Bottled in Brooklyn, Trees Knees Coffee Maple (syrup) is what happens when organic Grade A maple syrup gets a Stumptown Coffee Roasters Hair Bender Blend infusion. There’s a delectable richness that can complement breakfast and beyond—with noticeable dessert-like qualities. Bushwick Kitchen takes the utmost care with their products and this one truly reflects that.
With slow cooking and sous-vide cropping up just about everywhere, an at-home appliance like Mellow brings the method home in a safe and easy way. WiFi-enabled and smartphone-controlled, Mellow is intuitive and quick to initiate. It can produce up to six portions at a time, in food-safe HDPE bags. And because the process with Mellow is really so hands-off, it frees up users to enjoy their time or start prepping something else.
For such a slender organizer, there are compartments aplenty in Grayers and Baxter of California’s collaborative travel kit. First, there’s a pocket big enough for an iPad. Then, there are a series of utility pockets ranging in size. Elastic holders and leather snap-loops lock down headphones and wires. This is a handsome accessory for essentials and more.
All packaged up in a black leather Baggu pouch, Tetra’s hand-picked goods for on-the-go tokers are minimal but colorful, handy and playful. Inside you’ll find unbleached hemp rolling papers, a white bronze Fog Pin, gold Slide lighter, green acrylic box for storage, and a bottle of Japanese eyedrops.
It seems that just about everyone wears zany socks nowadays, with wild colors or unexpected patterns all about. For those who don’t want their personality to shine through their feet, Nice Laundry has a respectable new proposal: dynamic solids. This is a set of eight premium cotton-blend ribbed sock pairs, that offers staples like navy, grey and brown—but there’s also a bright blue, maroon and pink for the days when one might be feeling a little more daring.
Designed by Daniele ‘Danne’ Semeraro for Sempli, the Vaso Vino decanter aerates wine—up to an entire bottle’s worth—in a striking and uncommonly tilted shape. The hand-blown, lead-free crystal decanter carefully rests on it side, allowing the liquid to breathe but also makes for an easy pour from its circular top.
Super-soft and made from 100% cashmere, Of A Kind’s collaborative “Professional Enthusiast” sweater with Lingua Franca isn’t just a luxe addition to your wardrobe. There’s a positive message—or a phrase of encouragement—embroidered across the chest. That said, there’s also plenty of positivity behind the scenes too—with all proceeds going to Her Justice, an NYC organization that offers free legal advice to women in need.
With only a handful of ingredients (including white chocolate and natural Fuji apple flavor), Sugarfina has produced petite Fuji Apple Caramels that contain both the crispness of the fruit and richness of the sweet syrup. It’s another elegant candy from the brand, and while each piece carries just enough flavor, it’s quite easy to finish the entire package.
Created with April of 2019 in mind (when NYC’s L Train is set to shut down), Brilliant Bicycle Co’s L Train Bicycle is a sturdy and sleek daily commuter. Bumps are smoothly absorbed and at high speeds it handles confidently. Perhaps most importantly to many NYC inhabitants, it’s light—at a walkup-friendly 27 pounds. Along with an internal gearing system, the bike is powered by an ultra-durable and grease-free carbon Gates belt drive. Available in Subway Grey or Hudson Blue.
So much about Tap 357 Canadian Maple Rye Whisky works, making it a superb example of the possibilities of flavored whiskies. It’s tasty, high proof, reasonably priced and it mixes well into cocktails. The brand sourced blended rye from the oldest distillery in Western Canada and added in just enough “Canada 1 Light” maple syrup to offer authentic flavor. It’s not saccharine or fake, it’s not overwhelming and keep in mind, this is a potent 98.6 proof, so it’s no joke. The dark rye notes shine through and it offers heartier-than-expected mouthfeel.
