Mercedes-Benz Announces the All-New 2019 A-Class Sedan
An impressive aerodynamic, sleek and utilitarian, entry-level Benz with brand-first features
Unveiled tonight in Brooklyn, New York, the entry-level 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan promises to be the most aerodynamic car on the market. It’s also the first globally-available Mercedes-Benz featuring the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (or MBUX, the brand’s next generation infotainment system) which features a brand-first touchscreen, a Mercedes-developed voice interface and a home screen that self-organizes based on the driver’s patterns.
A step up from the Command system (which has been getting some flack lately), MBUX has several new features. Like with Siri or Alexa, drivers can now say “Hey, Mercedes” and do all kinds of things, from changing the climate settings in the car or getting weather information outside of it. It also features “Energizing Comfort,” the latest generation of what was previously called Fit & Healthy (watch our video on it here); with a push of one button it controls many of the car’s systems—lighting, sound, smell, etc.—in a coordinated manner to help energize or calm.
It fully embraces the Mercedes-Benz design philosophy, looking very much part of the sedan family. This is especially true with the all-new interior, which has been dramatically updated and upgraded. Though it’s one of the most accessible Mercedes-Benz models, it looks and feels like one of the family.
Both the A 220 and A 220 4MATIC vehicles will boast the new system, as well as a panorama roof, LED head- and tail-lamps, plenty of world-class safety features and a sleek silhouette that’s as visually appealing as it is functional. With much less drag than other models, this lean machine is more aerodynamic thanks to better sealing, paneling on its underbody and a slimmer front—offering less resistance from the very beginning.
