Seating at Maison et Objet 2013

Plush, rump-ready seating options seen at Maison et Objet

A perennial delight, Maison et Objet can also be an exhausting experience. Miles and miles of high design leave you craving nothing more than a frumpy pillow bed to slump down on. As part of our coverage from Maison et Objet 2013, here are a few highlights that show off the softer side of the Parisian design fair.

CO9 Lounge Rabbit

Back in 1998, irreverent Dutch company Fatboy created the iconic and beloved Original Fatboy bean bag, a design that sold over one million units. This year, Fatboy is back with the CO9 oversized lounge rabbit. The cuddly bunny is available in two sizes, ranging from nearly 7-feet long “small” to the 16-feet XXL version. Part lounge spot, part day bed, the bunny is made of a hardy stonewashed fabric great for both indoor and outdoor use.

Doggielounge

For tired canines, Fatboy created the Doggielounge. Designed as a comfy pillow for all breeds, it comes in two sizes and two highly resilient fabrics. The ultimate detail though is the bone decoration, which is attached with velcro and can be switched for one of Fatboy’s personalized nameplates.

Togo 40th Anniversary

For its 40th anniversary special edition, Ligne Roset‘s ’70s cult Togo seat has been dressed in two exclusive new fabrics—alcantara with a digital houndstooth pattern and a velvet jacquard with floral motif, reproduced from historic textiles by French manufacturers in Lyon. This audacious choice of patterns is highly illustrative of the current interest in black and white computer-inspired patterns and baroque stylings that are flanking the fashion industry as much as furniture design.

Coast & Valley Cushions

The cushion cases from France’s freshly minted home decor label Coast & Valley drew attention for their superbly nostalgic vibes. Coming from a background in advertising and communication, the founder happily transitioned to creating cushions inspired by sports photographs from the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s.

The vintage scenes mainly depict elegant pastimes like boating, golfing and skiing as well as seaside and mountain vacations. Using a simple digital printing process and aqueous ink, Coast & Valley create small quantities of cushions featuring golf balls, wooden skis, classic ski boots, cable cars, polo competitors and ski resorts signs. Made in France, the cushions are covered in polyester and filled with a cotton-poly blend.
