A Look at the Zenith Defy Classic Range Rover Evoque Special Edition

The three-year-old partnership reignites with the release of the Range Rover Evoque

by Josh Rubin

Zenith and Range Rover—whose collaborative efforts launched with the 2017 Range Rover Velar—have created another commemorative timepiece to embody the celebrated design of Range Rover vehicles. As the third edition of this effort, the first being the Chronomaster El Primero Range Rover Velar, this edition pays homage to the newest Range Rover, the all-new 2020 Evoque.

The Zenith Defy Classic takes inspiration from the vehicle’s fewer lines, sophistication and reductionism that’s heavy on function and light on frill and has a recognizable, distinct silhouette.

There are obvious references to the Evoque in the watch, but just as the designers behind the car seek to make a timeless vehicle, the Zenith team wanted a watch that embraced its own identity and complemented the Range Rover’s aesthetic. A beautifully built 41mm case nods directly to the new Evoque’s newer, more balanced proportions. “Arctic Petrol”—the turquoise blue secondary color—found its way into the watch on both the oscillating weight and the second hand. The most prominent homages are the dial’s adoption of the Evoque’s wheel design and the strap’s “diamond” patterning, which also appears on the SUV’s upholstery.

Collectors interested in purchasing this special edition timepiece—whether for the pure beauty of the Zenith watch or to accompany a new Evoque—will be able to purchase it in the coming weeks. With a limited run of just 200 pieces, true enthusiasts will have to fight, search and invest £6,100 to secure theirs.
