With the launch of their canvas and leather backpack for carrying cocktail supplies on-the-go, David Kaplan and Alex Day of Proprietors LLC, along with creative director Alexander Kwong, introduce the world to their new lifestyle brand, Gin & Luck. Kaplan and Day have worked on cocktail bars from Death & Co. and Demi Monde in New York City to The Rose in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Ellipsis in Mumbai and Bar & Kitchen in LA.

“We’ve loved the name Gin & Luck for a long time and always saw it as a lifestyle-based brand, with products that could be integrated into everyday life,” says Day. “The name itself hearkens to craft with a nod to whimsy. The idea feels very current, a toast or celebration to today and everyday to come—cheers to gin and luck. We travel constantly and wanted a bag that was suited to our lifestyle. We needed something for cocktail events only once in a while and an everyday work bag or traveler most of the time. This bag is suited for both.”

Designed with a nod to military-issue quality and LA street style, the three-piece set is comprised of a rucksack made with over-dyed canvas in black or blue, nickel-plated hardware, saddle leather and water-resistant lining, as well as a cocktail shaker sleeve and toolkit. The pack’s side-pocket saddlebags with a center-cut hole at the top can safely carry two 750ml bottles of spirits.

“First and foremost, we wanted a bag that was versatile,” adds Kaplan. “The bag is inspired by the cocktail community and it makes it effortless to grab a couple bottles, your cocktail tools and shakers and go, but it is in no way constrained to that. We’ve found the rucksack, shaker sleeve and tool kit work equally well for day-to-day needs. On a recent trip I used the shaker sleeve to organize my myriad of chargers, kept all my important items organized in the toolkit, and had plenty of room for my laptop, iPad and other travel necessities. It’s great to see people use it in their own way. One of the early prototype sets we lent out ended up being used by a stylist to hold everything she needed for work and she carried the tool kit as a clutch.”

The Gin and Luck Rucksack will be available at the Unique LA holiday show and are now online exclusively at Cocktail Kingdom for $395.
