Mash & Grape’s MashBox Spirits Subscription

A themed sampling of independently produced tipples, delivered to your door

Over the last two years, we’ve grown fond of NYC spirits retailer Mash & Grape for two reasons: first, their surprising and thorough stock and, second, their ability to ship across 35 states—a rarity in the world of alcohol. After eight months of development, a new product from their team hit the market this winter: the MashBox. In the crowded world of subscription services, this program excels at delivering rare, independent spirits directly to consumers’ doors. While there’s certainly a distillation boom in the US right now, a lot of superb tipples aren’t widely available, so for those on the lookout for the best of what’s next, MashBox makes it simple.

Each box, delivered four times a year, contains three 50ml bottles (and a discount code for the full bottles if they appeal). The debut box, dubbed “Hudson,” reflects the team’s plans for future editions. “The first one was easy,” Mash & Grape founder Adi Pal explains to CH. “We knew we wanted to make it about our beginnings, about New York.” The box contained a bourbon from Brooklyn’s Kings County Distillery, an 80 proof Traditional Honey Spiced Liqueur from Mahopac, NY’s Kas Krupnikas and Glorious Gin, which has actually been distilled from New York state grain. Within each box, serving suggestions further guide participants.

Each month, themes will unify all the products chosen. As Pal continues, “It’s determined by the team at the store. We are essentially coming across so many products, so we sit around and think about what would be cool to send out together.” He also hints at the next box: “We want to make the theme about the passion behind the newest distillers. There are a lot of stories of people quitting their careers and starting to distill. That will be the through line.” With their access to independents and a proven palate, Mash & Grapes’ MashBox provides spirits many won’t be able to find on their own.
