Birdwell Beach Britches + RVCA Spring Capsule Collection

Two surfwear staples come together for a retro twist on beach apparel

Californian brands Birdwell Beach Britches and RVCA are just a short drive away from each other in sunny Newport Beach, yet their new spring 2016 capsule collection sees the first time the two have teamed up. Each brand operates at the opposite end of the surfwear spectrum while sharing an appreciation for functional and timeless design. Birdwell has stuck to its roots, producing its classic two-ply nylon shorts since 1961, while RVCA continues to innovate and expand the boundary between art and apparel. Marrying the two distinct approaches results in a delightful collaboration just in time for the warmer weather.

Entirely made in the US, the new collection centers around Birdwell’s durable boardshorts ($120) and a competition jacket ($240), done in retro color-blocking designed by the team at RVCA. Lush teals, oranges and yellows recall the laid-back apparel of a bygone surf era, while stealthy blacked-out renditions offer a sleek look. In addition to the water-ready gear, collaborative T-shirts, towels, totes and a hat will have you covered while away from the shore break.
