Laura Lombardi for Market Publique

A cosmic jewelry collaboration

Driven by a polished, handmade aesthetic, jewelry designer Laura Lombardi creates small runs of necklaces, rings and earrings under her eponymous label. Lombardi makes each piece by hand from vintage and repurposed materials in her humble Chicago studio, with her latest collection of cosmic-inspired designs crafted exclusively for online vintage retailer Market Publique.

The collection incorporates Lombardi’s newfound interest in astronomy with her signature Egyptian and tribal motifs. Included are three necklaces and two pairs of earrings using thin chains, brushed metals and simple elemental forms. “Through using the astronomy-inspired shapes, mainly the spheres and circles, the pieces represent cyclical movement and are a little more playful than most of my work,” explains Lombardi. “At the same time there is a pared-down, elemental and minimal feeling to each of the pieces.”

Among the cohesive line, the Helios necklace stands out as a personal favorite for Lombardi. “It employs the most elements of my signature aesthetic—symmetry and repetition,” she says. “I also like the contrast between the dense, compact pendant and the long, delicate chain.”
