Ledbury: Editor’s Picks for Fall 2013
Two versatile looks for the colder months featuring the American label’s expertly crafted menswear

There’s certainly a chill in the air here in the northern hemisphere, but it’s no reason to forgo style. In fact, the colder months are the optimal time to step up both casual and formal looks with layers and textures. After the successful 31 Days of Shirts campaign to launch their fall line, American luxury menswear label Ledbury‘s full collection is now available and includes Italian wool sweaters, handmade accessories and—their calling card—perfectly tailored shirts in a range of weights and styles. We combed their collection to combine two versatile looks for the chilly months when the air is crisp and the leaves are falling.
First, we put together a look that is casual and comfortable but still focused on style. Sometimes you don’t know what the day has in store and this outfit allows for whatever a day in the city might throw at you; from a visit to the park to impromptu meetings. Starting with Ledbury’s famous shirts as a foundation, we chose the Grey Brook Melange for its warm yet breathable cotton blend fabric and signature fit. A slightly shorter cut along with the texture from the blended material makes the Brook an ideal layering piece.
Opting for a seasonal favorite that extends into the holiday season, the Palmer Sweater in green is ideal for layering over a button down or long-sleeved undershirt. With a blend of merino wool and cashmere, the Palmer is lightweight yet warm enough for colder days. Merino wool naturally wicks moisture so it’s perfect for throwing the ball around in the park or hiking through the woods in the fall foliage while the cashmere makes the Palmer luxuriously soft to the touch.
We rounded it all out with the Free Union belt, the perfect compliment to the deep colors of fall and wearable with both casual and more formal looks. Stitched, dyed and burnished by hand from English bridle leather, the Free Union’s white bronze buckle is fashioned from a quick release tool first used by England’s National Fire Service. Rich in detail and quality, the Free Union is sure to age with grace and character.
When it’s time to get buttoned up and look sharp—whether its carving the turkey on Thanksgiving or dinner with clients—a major factor when keeping a sense of style in colder weather is being warm. We based this look on injecting color and texture into an everyday upscale outfit. Ledbury’s famous gingham shirt in green, the Parker, provides a lightweight base as well as a pop of color and texture from the pattern. Keeping texture in mind and playing with color, we added the Barton socks in blue, supplementing not only our style but comfort with the sock’s slightly heavier weight perfect for when temperatures drop.
Over the bright, textured gingham shirt we opted for the classically styled and impeccably executed Thorpe Moto Henley Sweater in navy. Handcrafted in Italy from merino wool sourced nearby, the Thorpe features leather button loops and helps set off the shirt beneath. To bring the look full circle and truly dress it up, we added the ultra luxurious cashmere tie in cream. Made in Italy, a cashmere tie further adds texture and makes just about shirt and sweater combination appropriate for more formal events.
