Lexus + John Elliott’s Sneaker-Inspired Tires

Elliott’s Nike AF1 silhouette gets incorporated into a special edition 2019 UX

At a New York Fashion Week afterparty that felt like a victory lap for all brands—with John Elliott announcing a new store in Los Angeles and Lexus touting its impressive new Lexus UX—a fluorescent-white installation, titled “Sole of the UX,” had everyone’s attention. Using Elliott’s stylish Nike AF1 silhouette, Lexus outfitted a UX with sneaker-inspired tires. Double-stitched leather and a tire valve, reminiscent of a shoelace tip, included.

“It’s pretty amazing to see three companies [John Elliott, Lexus, Nike] come together with one singular lens to make a concept that’s better than the original,” Elliott tells us at the event.

Taking such a well-known silhouette and reimagining it is no simple task—now, Elliott has done it successfully twice. It makes sense: Nike’s AF1 is commonly seen on NYC streets, and the Lexus UX aims to be the brand’s more city-centric vehicle. For what could’ve been an out of place partnership, this collaboration comes together with style.
