These Cyborg Beetles Could One Day Replace Drones

Could cyborg insects be the next step in the evolution of drones? Engineers from Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University and the University of California Berkeley seem to think so. They’ve developed a way to remotely control beetles by inserting electrodes on the their legs, optic lobes and flight muscles. According to the engineers, the cyborg bugs are a better alternative to drones because of their ability to access hard-to-reach places and could one day be used in search-and-rescue missions.
