Mophie Juice Pack Helium

A super slim, battery-boosting case for iPhone 5

A bit of good news for iPhone 5 users comes this week as Mophie—one of the most trusted names in mobile charging devices—announces Helium, its first case charger for the new model. When compared with other charging options, Mophie stands out by not standing out, literally: Helium is ultra-slim, about 13 percent thinner than Air, Mophie’s name for their iPhone 4/4S charging case.

In terms of specs, the 1500 mAh battery roughly doubles the capacity of the iPhone’s internal battery, which translates to about six additional hours of talk time and 30 hours of music playback. Embedded in the metallic surface is an LED readout to give simple feedback on battery life. Helium also uses a micro-USB port to recharge, which is smart given that micro-USB cords a good deal easier to come by than lightning ports and can handle data transfer as well.

Naturally, the case is designed not to disrupt the antennae or port access. Mophie chose to funnel the bottom-mounted speakers to the front of the phone, which they claim results in fuller sound. We had a chance to demo Helium earlier this year at CES, and can attest to the design’s unobtrusiveness. As for performance, nine generations of solid iOS battery cases from Mophie are grounds enough to warrant the investment.

The Mophie Juice Pack Helium is available online for $80.
