Pendleton + Airstream’s 2016 National Park Foundation Travel Trailer

A versatile and celebratory limited edition camper

There is, perhaps, no more appropriate setting for an Airstream than one of America’s National Parks. Airstream campers, in production since 1929, are designed for adventure and, with their 2016 Pendleton National Park Travel Trailer, Airstream is honoring the 100th anniversary of America’s National Parks—iconic camping destinations—with style. Only 100 of these limited edition campers are being produced and inside one will find more than Pendleton flourishes, but also real developments to the Airstream experience.

Among the features on this 28-foot pull-behind trailer, the rear sport hatch proves to be most dynamic. On a functional level, it allows for easy loading and unloading but beyond that, it (and accompanying roll-down screen) provides protected yet uninhibited views. The stowable dinette table also fits neatly near the hatch, for dining near-al-fresco. As for kitchen amenities, there are plenty: from a stainless steel oven to a glass cooktop and an eight-inch-deep sink. The trailer can sleep six, but the queen bed reflects the roomy living areas nicely.

Airstream President & CEO Bob Wheeler shares with CH that Pendleton was called upon because they have “a history and heritage similar to our own in that we are both American icons and have had a long-standing association with the National Parks.” He continues, “Pendleton creates many striking products to accompany a travel trailer, and we both knew we wanted to honor the centennial anniversary, so collaborating together to create a mutually-rich product that would encourage people to experience this country’s magnificent landscapes just felt right for us.” Pendleton’s contributions include more than the rustic decor; they also had a hand in the leather furniture and blankets, as well as a special awning package. And every Airstream comes complete with selects from Pendleton’s iconic National Park Collection.

As for why the brand decided to honor the nation’s National Parks, Wheeler says, “Airstream has been involved with the National Parks for as long as we’ve been around and our Airstreamers use their products as a springboard to explore beautiful places and create their own adventures. The National Park Foundation was set up to support and protect these amazing places and inspire future generations of adventure-seekers, so supporting their cause was a true fit for us and our own values.” Further, Airstream will donate $1,000 to the National Park Foundation for each of these limited edition campers sold.

The 2016 Pendleton National Park Foundation Airstream Travel Trailer is available through Airstream dealers starting at $114,600.
