For our first Cool Hunting Edition travel experience we brought 24 friends and readers on safari in Zambia. Over the course of eight days, CH Zambia guests experienced the wonders and wildlife of Africa with a few surprises from our brand partners. More stories and videos here.

Packing for safari is not only a challenge in figuring out what to wear, but also an exercise in restraint. To get in and out of Mfuwe, our starting point for CH Zambia, we had to fly on small planes and had significant weight restrictions. Because we were moving between camps we also needed smaller bags. Once we realized our regular suitcases wouldn’t cut it, and that all of our guests would have the same challenge, we reached out to our friends at Tumi to collaborate on a solution.

We started with Tumi’s Alpha Duffel, which we knew we had to make in a safari shade of khaki, and shrunk it down to the requisite size. From there we added a few subtle hits of our favorite shade of green and embossed our CH Zambia logo in the luggage tag. For those who might not want to use the handles we added an optional carrying strap. With ample interior and exterior pockets keeping clothes and other items organized is easy, and while the bag measures 12x23x10.75 inches, it holds much more than we imagined it could.

Always curious about the way people travel, Tumi developed their Case Studies video series to share packing tips from different people always on the go. We welcomed the opportunity to make a video as we were preparing for the trip.

The Cool Hunting Safari Edition Alpha Duffel is available for $545 at tumi.com along with the other great packing accessories featured here.
