Best known for making backpacks that not only withstand daily beatings but—equipped with a rock-solid lifetime warranty—will literally outlast you, Mission Workshop has quickly earned quite a following in just a few years. The industry vets that lead the design-driven, San Francisco brand go beyond the idea of a simple carry-all to accommodate the ever-changing needs of a busy lifestyle with their new modular Arkiv System. Anchored by a series of packs and interchangeable weatherproof accessories, the System is designed to adapt to your day-to-day operations.

The VX/ R8 Arkiv Field Pack is a hulk of a bag developed under the special Advanced Projects label. The 1000 denier VX Cordura pack is equipped with eight Arkiv rails, which allows for the attachment of an equal number of accessories for a myriad of configurations. Inside the waterproof ripstop shell is a lightweight VX70 ripstop liner. For a slightly less comprehensive option Mission Workshop introduces the R6 Arkiv Field Pack featuring six rails and available in two sizes—40 and 20 liters, each with the same amount of adaptability with accessories.

The group is rounded out by the R2 Arkiv Field Pack, a slender pack made with waxed canvas. The sleek, black pack features two Arkiv rails, giving you the option to go minimalist or maximalist. Not every day do you need to carry a laptop or stack of books, but when it’s unavoidable the eight Arkiv accessories come into play. The largest is the thickly padded laptop case, which like the folio accessory features two additional Arkiv rails, allowing for stacking. A specialized tool pocket, cell pocket and vertical rolltop pocket—all weatherproof—are also available. Use the shoulder strap accessory to tote any of the components as individual bags, or stack them all on a pack and use the waist belt accessory to stabilize yourself.

All Mission Workshop products are built with hard anodized hardware in the US. Working with the same Colorado manufacturer since the beginning, the brand designs all products with durability in mind—meaning you won’t find any elastic mesh pockets, only materials that will literally last a lifetime.
