Muzoon Almellehan aka the Malala of Syria
16-year-old Syrian refugee Muzoon Almellehan is being hailed as “the Malala of Za’atari” for her relentless campaign for young women to stay in school instead of opting for early marriage. Shortly after arriving in a Jordanian refugee camp and enrolling in classes in 2013, Almellehan began to notice families pushing their daughters to drop out of school and marry early as a misguided step toward a more secure future. Since then she’s been tirelessly petitioning her elders to keep their daughters in school, as it’s the most promising path to a better life.
