Róisín Murphy: Gone Fishing

Róisín Murphy has returned (eight years after her last album) and not a moment too soon. The Irish singer/songwriter announced her record Hairless Toys and dropped the first song from it, the excellent “Gone Fishing,” which Murphy was inspired to write after seeing cult film “Paris is Burning.” She says “I was deeply moved by this film… The culture was a flamboyant reaction to persecution and disillusionment, the imagination and bravery of these kids is simply awe-inspiring. I envisioned ‘Gone Fishing’ almost as a song from a Broadway musical version of this story.” In true Murphy style, the track is haunting and pretty all at once.
