DARPA is Developing a Fleet of Autonomous Military Drones
DARPA, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, is in the early stages of a new science fiction-like initiative called the Gremlins program. In essence, DARPA is looking to create a fleet of autonomous drones to launch at altitude from a transport plane, carry out military missions (like surveillance or electronic jamming), and then return to their mothership for docking. Lockheed Martin, Composite Engineering, Dynetics, and General Atomics are currently working on early phase designs and hope to keep the cost of each drone to $700,000 each. Learn more at The Drive.
