In her article “Music to die for: how genre affects popular musicians’ life expectancy,” Dianna Kenny examines the correlation between musical genres and the deaths of their most popular acts. Kenny—who is a professor of psychology and music—uses one of her charts to arrange causes of death by musical genre, pointing out some interesting takeaways. Homicide accounted for 51% of rap and hip-hop deaths, suicide caused nearly 20% of metal musician deaths and folk singers suffered most from cancer at almost 33% of deaths.
