Nevada Green Lights Self-Driving Trucks

While much of the attention surrounding autonomous autos has focused on personal vehicles, arguably the most beneficial market for self-driving technology is in the trucking industry—in which driver fatigue is a common concern. Realizing this, the state of Nevada has just given Freightliner the green light to test its self-driving 18-wheelers on public highways. Human drivers will still be present to monitor activity, but the trucks will be able to autonomously guide themselves on the open road and can even form “platoons” with other trucks to cut down on wind resistance.
