A First Look Inside NYC’s Forthcoming PUBLIC Hotel

Ian Schrager guides people through his highly anticipated new LES high-rise

Hotelier Ian Schrager is a busy man. In December, we bore witness to the opening of his magnificent EDITION Hotel Sanya in the South China Sea. Today, we have news from one of the most anticipated hospitality additions to NYC in a long while. The PUBLIC Hotel will open its doors in the Lower East Side in under a month. There’s already a laundry list of features that have accumulated attention—a design by Pritzker Prize award-winning architects Herzog & de Meuron, a restaurant from Jean-Georges Vongerichten—but most important here is the very accessible cost—especially for New York City. In a new video, Schrager talks people through the new hotel’s ethos while video footage delivers the first visuals of its hallways and rooms. It’s valuable insight on the property, though it doesn’t touch upon a lot that we are still excited for: including the three bars (one of which is known as The Roof) and Public Arts, an avant-garde multimedia performance space for diverse cultural programming.

PUBLIC will open 7 June 2017 at 215 Chrystie Street, New York. Rates begin at $150 per night.
