In lieu of prescription drugs, a new crop of young professionals is taking microdoses of either magic mushrooms or LSD to increase focus, empathetic feelings, clarity and to altogether broaden thinking before or during the work day. A mircodose means one-tenth of that which will get a user high. Proponents have noted better moods, greater functionality and limited side effects, but as there have been no longterm clinical studies—only testaments from users and neuroscientists with psychedelia expertise—it’s all still a gray area. The point is: “It is no longer a fad,” according to Dr James Fadiman, author of The Psychedelic Explorer’s Guide and moderator of experimental research at present. And for that reason alone we should be looking into this further.
