Musician turned designer Ryan Barr’s latest accessory is a refreshingly simple take on a classic messenger bag. Like the rest of the products under Barr’s leather goods label , Whipping + Post, which include instrument cases and other accessories, the new bag is entirely handcrafted and built to last.
Finding inspiration in Barr’s experiences as a musician on the road as well as old-school US Postal Service bags, the messenger is definitively utilitarian. The roomy satchel is particularly good for schlepping to and from work, with a newspaper pocket, keychain lanyard and padded laptop storage. Despite its tough construction, supple vegetable-tanned leather makes it soft to the touch, while finishing flourishes like brass studs and a hidden label add a classic appeal.
The Vintage Messenger Bag sells for $265 and is available for order through Whipping + Post’s website.
