Samsung and Artist Alex Proba’s Bold, Bespoke Refrigerator

A new limited edition collaboration offers a joyful way to personalize home appliances

When Samsung first debuted their Bespoke collection of home appliances in 2021 it merged functional innovation with spirited interior design. Now, Samsung is furthering its commitment to shaking up the sleepy appliance market with a limited edition panel set by artist Alex Proba, taking the designs to bolder levels for their 4-Door Flex refrigerator/freezer. The new iteration draws inspiration from the vibrancy of the outdoors, aiming to bring nature’s bounty of colorful vibes inside, and the panels will be available this spring (and are open for reservations now).

The Portland- and Brooklyn-based artist, who often wields shapes and hues to evoke positive memories and feelings, creates a fittingly joyful and charming take on humble appliances. This new limited edition is currently only available for the 4-Door Flex, but we hope to see that expand to other models and designs soon. Other bright colors like clementine, sunrise yellow, pink, morning blue and charcoal are available features for several glass Bespoke models, while emerald green, navy, tuscan and matte black make up the finishes for steel. Samsung simplifies the process by selling the ready-to-customize appliances as well as the color panels to its dealers; the panels are installed (and easily changed) when the unit is delivered, so having something custom is as easy as going to your local appliance store.

“My work explores joy and happiness using colorful patterns and shapes inspired by nature,” says Proba. “Designing for Samsung’s Bespoke refrigerator was a new adventure for me and a way for my art to transcend traditional mediums—bringing vibrant color with abstract patterns to unexpected places.”

As with the previous Bespoke refrigerators, these limited edition designs—available in either three- or four-door configurations—can be mixed and matched. Similarly, the Bespoke’s efficient tech-forward features aren’t sacrificed for aesthetics. The new line is equipped with full or counter-depth models, Family Hub (Samsung’s tablet-interface for smart homes), the latest cooling and food storage innovations, their signature Beverage Center (which provides filtered water through either a built-in pitcher or internal dispenser), the Dual Auto Ice Maker and the FlexZone (which keeps food at an optimal temperature for freshness).

Equipped with a variety of style options and smart features, the latest Bespoke refrigerators offer a playful way to personalize home appliances and imbue interiors with vivid, energetic design.
