A Refined Point of View: trashhand’s Chicago

We tap the architectural photographer to help launch the 2020 Range Rover Evoque

The 2020 Range Rover Evoque is all about refinement—it’s entirely redesigned, but immediately recognizable. Land Rover’s city-focused compact luxury SUV makes its US debut today at the Chicago Auto Show and we tapped local architecture and street photographer trashhand to help us explore what refinement means to him.

“People call Chicago a second city, but to me it’s second to none,” trashhand tells us during the shoot. He knows the city inside and out, and shadowing him as he drove the Evoque around to get photos was an eye-opener. There are so many converging lines among the buildings inside The Loop that finding the perfect angle can be a challenge.

Our tour passed by exemplary art and architecture, visited local fashion designers HERO/BLACK and sat in on a session with sibling musicians Jaime and Solo Woods at the remarkable Stony Island Arts Bank. Each moment along the way was an expression of refinement achieved through trial, error, iteration and an unyielding commitment to perfection.

At today’s press conference Jaime and Solo Woods performed “SOS,” a soulful Afrobeat number that also happens to be the soundtrack for our video. The artists grew up in Chicago with four other siblings in a household where creativity was nurtured. They each perform as solo artists, but lately have been collaborating to fuse their respective styles.

The all-new Evoque was unveiled to the US market today at the Chicago Auto Show. Sales will begin in the spring.
