The NYCxDESIGN Festival returns to the city from 14-20 May 2026, serving as New York’s official design week with over 250 events spanning 10 different disciplines. A highlight of this year’s festival is the One Night Stand: What We Bring to Bed installation, presented by the American Design Club in partnership with the design-forward citizenM Bowery hotel in the Lower East Side. Kiel Mead, the director of the American Design Club, describes the vision for the show as an “exhibition exploring the objects, rituals, and identities shaping our space as we prepare for sleep.”

The show features over 40 unique objects designed to inhabit the intimate space of the nightstand. Designers were invited to interpret the theme through six core categories:

  • The Nightstand: The “stage” for nightly and morning rituals
  • Light: Objects that provide orientation and comfort in the dark, such as small lamps and glowing chargers
  • Hydration: Vessels for water and skin care, including carafes, bottles and moisturizers
  • Maintenance: Tools for daily care, including glasses containers, sleep masks and hair ties
  • Mind: Items that help gather thoughts or create atmosphere, like books, trays, candles and diffusers.
  • Health: Objects for bodily regulation, including medication organizers, vitamins and alarms
