It’s almost too easy to fall in love with the work of fashion designer Raf Simons. From his otherworldly couture looks for Dior to vibrant adidas sneaker collaborations, the Belgian visionary often presents a bright vision for the future of clothing and accessories. Some may not know that Simons actually began as a furniture designer, and his just released collaboration with Danish textile manufacturer Kvadrat unites his passion for fabrics with an understanding of their use as homewares. The Kvadrat + Raf Simons collection, available at Avenue Road starting this weekend, contains over 200 textiles, pillows and throws. These are uncommon wool upholstery fabrics: bold, inventive and produced by one of the most respected names in the industry.
As with most of Simons work, the inspiration is drawn from a myriad of sources.
This time, modernist furniture, pop and contemporary art, fashion and music set the tone. Stripes, solids and speckled patterns come in 100% wool, mohair, and new wool worsted blends. As with the previous collections, the high quality becomes immediately evident when the fabrics are held.
Avenue Road is the exclusive distributor of the textile collection in NYC, and it will launch in store this weekend at 145 West 28th Street. Throws start at $273 and pillows begin at $105. The textiles are for sale with price upon request as there is the aforementioned multitude of colorway options per textile design. Certain Avenue Road furniture pieces can also be customized with Kvadrat + Raf Simons fabrics, also listed as price available upon request.
