Borrowing style tips from the brand’s own heritage 997, 998 and the 999 silhouettes, New Balance‘s upcoming 009 sneakers add a modern twist with innovative materials and thoughtful, tech-forward design. With pressure mapping for the midsole (making them super-comfy), molded neoprene along the contoured ankle (making them extra supportive), plus a collapsable heel counter for easy on/off, these shoes are more than just a fashionable sneaker. Joe Grondin, Associate Product Manager for Lifestyle at New Balance tells us, “There’s cushioning where you need it, and stability on the outside.”
Regarding inspiration sources from New Balance’s own past, Grondin continues, “There’s a design language taken from all those shoes, but definitely toned-down, fewer pieces and sleeker for a modernized execution. Also, like all our styles in the Sports Style category, we like to bridge the gap between classics and performance—taking technology from our running team.”
Available in three colorways—off-white, a washed-out red and (our favorite) slate blue—the sneakers also feature a speckled suede, which matches the outsole made from recycled rubber. The NB 009 sneakers will be available for purchase 1 July and will retail for $110.
