Summersalt’s Affordable, Eco-Friendly Swimwear

Made from recycled materials, a guilt-free purchase for last-minute trip planning

For those of us in the northern hemisphere, summer seems to not be letting go of its unsettling grip—with an unusually extended warmer weather. But even when autumn makes its grand entrance soon, it doesn’t mean you won’t be donning a swimsuit until next year. Launched in May, St Louis-based Summersalt is having consumers rethink the “seasonal-only” expectation, and make a new (or last-minute) swimsuit purchase guilt-free, any time of the year by offering quality pieces under $95, made from premium recycled materials.

Co-founder Lori Coulter actually has a patent for integrating 3D body-scanning and computer aided design to create a 100% digital, automated supply chain—it was used to scan around 10,000 women to collect 150 measurements on each body. The data was then used to inform the design of Summersalt’s pieces, for the closest-to-perfect fit. Beyond fit, the brand emphasizes the noticeable durability of the material (which also offers UPF 50+ protection) over “ordinary swimsuits.” There’s a whole range of tops, bottoms, one pieces, even a long-sleeve crop top and leggings option.

Starting this month, Summersalt is offering new “try-at-home” packs—a selection of four suits to try on within a six-day window, and paying only for what you want to keep. (Just note the additional $15 fee that’s added to cover cost of shipping and return.) Though ordering the try-on packs are currently invite-only, you can skip the wait with access code PACKSPLEASE. And shopping Summersalt pieces is open to all, and they have free returns within 30 days. The brand plans on dropping new styles every eight weeks or so.
