Wemoto Clothing: Rap Idols Series
Cartoonish skate decks that capture the style of hip-hop icons Kool Keith, Nas and MF Doom
Skateboard decks have almost become as much about artwork as skateboarding itself. Sometimes that’s just fine, especially in the case of German brand Wemoto Clothing‘s newly released Rap Idols Series. The decks feature three of the genre’s most influential rappers in the brand’s signature cartoon-meets-realist style. Each of the heroes dons their own unique style—with self-proclaimed weirdo Kool Keith in his “Black Elvis” garb—representative of his abstract, psychedelic contributions to hip-hop. Meanwhile MF DOOM dons his usual mask. While Nas might be wearing more tailored suits than army jackets these days, his portrayal on Wemoto’s deck is a throwback to the “Nastradamus” days.
