A Perfect LA Getaway With FoundersCard

We plan a weekend full of treats, all discounted thanks to the membership community

Sponsored by FoundersCard

From special rates and loyalty status with airlines to preferred pricing at some of our favorite shops—not to mention preferred rates, upgrades and amenities at hotels the world over—FoundersCard offers a lot. We’ve been members for years and have saved thousands of dollars via its many benefits—from mobile service to rental cars to shipping services, and now we’re extending a special membership rate to readers.

While the global membership community was set up for entrepreneurs, innovators, and business professionals (and they now boast over 20,000 members), the card’s benefits stretch far further than work-related purchases. To illustrate exactly how much a FoundersCard member can save, we’ve pulled together a getaway to LA to compare prices. From flights to massages, this is a vacation fit for royalty—at a much more affordable price.

FoundersCard members get special rates and receive loyalty status in many airlines (Cathay Pacific, American Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, Virgin America, British Airways, Qantas, Emirates and JetBlue). Our choice from CH HQ in NYC to LA is Virgin America, where FoundersCard members receive up to 12% off of the ticket price. Looks like we can save around $50 when booking a seat in Main Cabin Select for up to nine people traveling on the same itinerary.

You can book a car from Carey or Empire to take you to the airport and save around 10%, that’s about $8 on a trip from NYC to JFK. Once you arrive you can save up to 25% on a rental car from Hertz, Avis and Sixt, or put your discounted Zipcar membership to use. A Mustang from Avis sounds like a great weekend car, and we can save around $30 using FoundersCard’s preferred rates. Picking up the car is easier too as you automatically earn Preferred Plus status.

Choosing a hotel from FoundersCard member brands is easy. In LA options include the SLS, The Standard, Mondrian, Mr C, and L’Ermitage, but other cities offer great rates at Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental, The Ritz-Carlton, Morgans Hotel Group and more. Our choice is The Standard Downtown, where we can save up to $140 a night off of a room, an upgrade if it’s available, late check out at 4PM and a welcome amenity upon arrival. For our two-night stay, we’ve saved up to $280. We’ve just about paid for our year’s membership in FoundersCard.

With a flight and hotel booked with savings in tow, there’s room to purchase a vacation-specific wardrobe. Our pick—for all genders—happens to be NYC-based brand rag & bone. From casual to dress-up, their clothing truly impresses, with style and quality at its core. There, members get an ongoing 15% off all online purchases. A pair of shorts and a T-shirt sound in order, and we can rack up savings of $40 off of the $270 we’d spend on a pair of Standard Issue shorts and a Palm Print tee.

When visiting LA—between all the sights, galleries, museums and hikes—there’s always need for downtime, and there’s no better way to treat yourself than with a massage, facial or—our pick—a hot salt body scrub at Bliss Spa. The lush treatment usually costs $125, but FoundersCard members receive an ongoing 20% discount (on massages, facials and body treatments) which means your 45 minutes in heaven will set you back only $100.

If booked straight off the sites, our weekend getaway would cost around $1850. Thanks to FoundersCard we’ve racked up around $410 in savings. We’ve also just paid for our membership in FoundersCard for the year with many, many other opportunities to save on all kinds of products and services. Visit FoundersCard online for a full list of benefits. Cool Hunting readers are offered a preferred rate of $395 for the annual membership (a $400 saving) with the promo code: CoolVIP.
