John Wizards: Cape Town in Your Earbuds mix

This weekend, the Cape Town Electronic Music Festival will see international acts and local artists drawing a crowd at the centrally located City Hall. As a lead up to the three-day festival, Okayafrica called on five local artists to participate in a mix series that embodies the sound of the city. It’s a city famous for its jazz, so we were excited to see young five-piece ensemble John Wizards tapped for their quintessentially Cape Town tracks. The smooth mix is required listening for anyone unfamiliar with the Mother City’s musical history and significance. Recognizable names like Hugh Masekela make an appearance along with more obscure (but nonetheless influential) names like The Flaming Souls and Dudu Pukwana. For many of us, this opens the door to a wealth of of previously undiscovered tunes.
