Headspace 2013

Open up your mind for the year ahead with an annual Nat Russell calendar

Just as another year of creative commitments kick into full swing, artist Nathaniel Russell delivers his annual thematic calendar for a bit of visual fodder while keeping track of time. Russell’s spirited subject for 2013 is “Headspace,” an illustrative homage to all of the cosmic notions filling up your noggin. He tells us, “I like making a theme for each year, something to think about or keep in mind, I guess.” His handsome print (and matching tee) is a real reminder that what fills your day is just as important as what fills your brain.

Russell has made a calendar each year for the last half decade, yet it isn’t organization or time encouraging his artistic endeavor. “I am into the act of making things that people can use that are artful and good to look at every day,” he explains. “I feel like it’s sort of a tradition for printmakers and designers to make useful things, or beautiful things that also have a function.”

No stranger to making useful art—Russell’s work has graced shirts, bags, postcards, skateboards and more—this year he’s doubling up with a limited edition calendar and T-shirt combo for “Headspace.” You can pick up one of 100 signed and numbered prints ($30) or one of 48 shirts ($25) individually or together ($50) from his online shop.
