Now accepting submissions through 1 April 2014, social media (and more) service Google+ renews their Saatchi Gallery partnership with a competition embracing moving photography. Google+ just unveiled Motion, a free tool that enables users to animate their still photographs automatically—an incredibly handy tool in a GIF-obsessed world. Global entrants—from professional photographers to everyday clickers who have at least five photos—are now invited to use the service and submit images for the first-ever Motion Photography Prize. There are six categories for entry and each one will be unveiled on a weekly basis at Saatchi’s Google+ page. The first two? Landscape and lifestyle.
“Google+ aims to make professional-level photography effortless for all,” Cristian Cussen, Head of Marketing for Google+, EMEA explains to CH. “If a picture can tell a thousand words, motion photography can tell a whole story.” Google+ is excited about “enabling anybody with a smart phone, or any camera whatsoever, to tell their story in a new creative way, and be showcased at the iconic Saatchi Gallery in London.”
One finalist will be selected in each of the six categories, with a judging panel featuring celebrated filmmaker Baz Luhrmann, photographer Cindy Sherman and artist Shezad Dawood. Those chosen will showcase their winning entries at a special exhibition held at London’s Saatchi Gallery on 16 April 2014. The winner will also receive all necessary provisions to attend the opening night event with a guest. The exhibition will be featured online at Saatchi Art, a hotbed for emerging talent. One overall winner scores a trip with a photographer or filmmaker of their choice.
