Laundry Detergent Cubes

You are likely aware that liquid laundry detergent is mostly water and comes in large plastic containers—and yet we expend a lot of effort, cost and pollution moving these containers around, just to wind up in a landfill. Then there’s the contents, which are often full of chemical surfactants, phthaletes, preservatives and more. There are several more natural options, like Nellie’s, which packages its small cubes in a square aluminum box. Nothing exotic in their very clean formula, which includes baking soda, citric acid, sodium carbonate, salt, natural enzymes, sodium metasilicate, alcohol ethoxylate as a biodegradable surfactant. One little cube, tossed in the washer drum, is all you need. We prefer the unscented version, but it’s also available in Spa Day, Lavender and Fresh Linen, all naturally scented. As for the packaging, the design team was inspired by the color of the illuminated grapes in the Andalusian sun to create a custom color—by mixing paints on paper and metal to achieve a hue that hits harder than any Pantone swatch could—that captures the emotion of that exact, magical moment.

Notes in Repose Limited Edition Vinyl LP

Blue Bottle’s Notes in Repose is their first LP release, a work featuring 11 contemporary jazz compositions which were performed and recorded in their cafes in different markets. Participating artists include Gary Bartz with Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Makaya McCraven, Jeff Parker, Angel Bat Dawid and the Kyoto Jazz Sextet. The project was created as a way to celebrate its Signature Blends, including Giant Steps, named after John Coltrane’s seminal album. Blue Bottle views the tension of jazz akin to the blending and roasting of their coffee. The 12″ LP is pressed in heavyweight 180g vinyl and runs 44 minutes.

Friar Park x Niwaki Meditation Jacket

Niwaki—one of our favorite gardening brands—has launched a collection inspired by the gardens at Friar Park, the long time family estate of George Harrison known for its quirky architecture and extensive gardens. Though George passed in 2001 his wife Olivia still lives there, and their son Dhani grew up there. He has passionately cared for the gardens since his father died, and his appreciation of Niwaki’s gardening clothing and gear turned into a friendship with the founder. Fast forward to the new collaborations, which include this 12 ounce Akamimi Japanese denim meditation jacket and a set of tools. Cat Bed Air Purifier
