Freshwater Cultured Pearl

The small treasure of a freshwater cultured pearl is formed by a freshwater mussel (Hyriopsis cumingi), which can produce two to three dozen pearls. Traditionally these mussels were cultivated in Japan though these specimens–packaged in a tiny, convenient vial–come to us from China.

Available from The Evolution Store for $2.
