The Anchor “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year” Ale is a malty summation of all things early November to mid-January. The beer, first brewed in 1975, changes recipes every year. That said, it’s consistent—not a lot alters, aside from differing roasts and slight variations in spice profiles. Artist Jim Stitt draws a new label each year—choosing a new tree as the focal point, and this year it’s the Korean Pine. A culmination of excellent craftsmanship and holiday spirit, the 2018 edition boasts subtle notes of cardamom, a mix of other seasonal spices and a faint booziness.
