Maira Kalman

My Favorite Things

Much-loved NYC author and illustrator Maira Kalman curated an exhibit for the long-awaited reopening of the Cooper Hewitt design museum, where she highlights some of her favorite things from the Smithsonian Institution’s collection—from Abraham Lincoln’s pocket watch to a 1934 zig-zag chair designed by Gerrit Rietveld. Complementing that is a beautifully handwritten and illustrated book “My Favorite Things.” Kalman’s humorous words and personal memories place each object in a new context that will have you eager to revisit your own journal.
